MIND PALACE XR
an interactive, AI-enhanced experience
Samarth Reddy
Project Description
In an era of information overload, retaining memory has become an increasingly challenging cognitive task. This research explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Augmented Reality (AR) can enhance human memory, drawing inspiration from the classical mnemonic technique, the Method of Loci (Memory Palace). By using AI-generated contextual cues and AR overlays, this study investigates how spatial memory techniques can be transformed into immersive, real-world experiences that improve recall and retention.
Employing a Research through Design (RtD) and Speculative Design methodology, the project develops and evaluates multiple prototypes integrating AI and AR for memory augmentation. These prototypes serve as artifacts to envision a preferable future, where memory support is more intuitive, adaptive, and seamlessly integrated into daily life.
This research contributes to the fields of Human-Computer Interaction, Artificial Intelligence, and Augmented Reality, offering insights into the future of AI/AR-powered memory tools. By combining speculative futures research with hands-on prototyping, it explores how memory can evolve from a passive process into an interactive, AI-enhanced experience embedded in everyday environments.
